Installation

The Nunzio & Sons approach to installing stone surfaces ensures the beauty of the stone is never compromised.

A shared “surface first” approach

for superior end results

We start our installation process long before the stone and tile installers arrive on the jobsite. In fact, we’re there even before plumbing and electrical is installed.

We start with a clean slate at the stud walls stage. Using laser digitizing, we capture the space, creating 3D measurements of the room. From there, we place the stone in the room in our CAD drawings and determine the best place for seams, electrical outlets, plumbing, fixtures and more.

Elements of the room can easily be adjusted in the drawings. Once they’re approved, all the trades are working from the same benchmarks and reference lines detailed on the drawings that our fabrication team is using to cut the stone. Everything is aligned with the architect’s vision and the natural beauty of the stone in mind!

Then while other trades are working on the job site, our team is working on cutting the slabs. In a few weeks (depending on the size of the project), we’re back on site to install the stone.

Our “surface first” approach to coordinating all the elements affected by an installation starts with considerations for the stone, tile or other surface material vs. ending with them. This is far more efficient. There’s less time and money wasted, and less stress waiting for the stone or tile to arrive on site. And, it allows us to take full advantage of patterns or veining in the stone. There’s no need to compromise the end result when we start with the surface first.

The installers are guided by our site supervisors and project managers to ensure a proper and correct installation. Everyone is working according to the map — the approved drawings — that indicate where each tile or slab is to be placed. The benchmarks and reference lines are established in the drawings. Very little is left to interpretation.

Setting materials

The quality of the setting materials we use is important. We spare no expense and use the highest grade of setting materials, waterproofing, isolation membranes, drain mats and tools on our projects.

Often we will request the latest information from the setting material manufacturing companies to learn about new and improved supplies or instructional means and methods for a high-quality application.

Exterior installations

In addition to interior projects, we also manage the installation of

► Exterior stone pavers

► Pool coping

► Exterior hanging cladding system

Hanging cladding systems

The cladding systems we install are either natural stone or porcelain slabs.  There are basically two types of hanging methods.

1. The first method is the kerf cut method typically used with a 3 cm stone material.

2. The second method uses an anchoring system with specialty clips drilled into the  back of the stone using specific equipment or CNC drilling.

Contact us for further details on either of these methods.

A stone installation story

Picture it. The stonework installer arrives onsite. The plumbing and electrical work is done. Cabinetry is in place. How will the stone look? Will the stone’s coloring and veining line up? Will the slabs align with other elements in the room? Will plumbing or wiring need to be moved?

There’s no cause for concern. No need to stress. We’re strategic, organized and meticulous in our attention to detail.

First, the slabs are readily accessible in the order they’re being installed. Then, the slabs are lining up beautifully with all the other elements. No need to redo any work. The installation is completed efficiently, and the natural beauty of the stone is the architectural feature for which it was selected.

This low-stress, install experience is what Nunzio & Sons delivers for our clients — on every stonework installation job. It’s how we’ve earned our excellent reputation with builders, installers and other trades on the job site.

With our investment in technology and our skilled team, all the upfront work (from Procurement for the right stone through to the precision work in Engineering and Fabrication), results in the smoothest installation experience imaginable. Our approach and methods deliver the architects’ vision and save the builder’s time and money.
